How does the insurance claims process work?

There are, broadly speaking, four steps to the claims process:

You file your claim, either directly with your insurance company or with our assistance, which will involve filling out a form and providing supporting documentation.
Your claim gets assessed by your insurance provider. They assess the medical documents and diagnosis, and may make specific requests directly to your GP, surgeon, or specialist. Depending on the claim, your insurer may need to commission expert assessments.
Your claim gets reviewed against your insurance policy to determine what is and isn’t covered by it.
If your claim is accepted, it is paid out, less any excess or other factors as determined by your policy.
